@Michael VanGundy Thats a whole lot of work for potential gains that aren't necessary. Not to mention your garden variety Goodwrench 350s were a whopping 195hp back in the day. When the 4.0 came out, it was making power and torque on point or better than a 305. When the H.O. came out it was making 20hp more and about 20lbft less than the 305 in full size trucks until '95. Plus we all know how straight sixes are inherently balanced plus have more main bearings than a v8 which contributes to their longevity...all the work to swap in a SBC doesn't make sense. Extra mass isn't a bad thing for recoveries either since am XJ is a pretty light vehicle compared to a modern, well, anything. My F150 is 2,500lbs heavier than my XJ...which is only a 3500lb vehicle to begin with 😅

@Dustin Meier well thats kinda debatable tq and horsepower work together you cant get big tires up on top without horsepower and you cant turn the tread without the tq..the inline is a good motor it does the job and it drops in and goes no muss no fuss.. personally im getting more and more fonde of the pentastar engines over the 4.0..

@Tasman McMillan Nope. Nope. Just no. And inline six shorthand is L6, An inline 4 shorthand is L4 You've got it on the wrong side chief.

@Isaac Nelson no fucking shit, you don’t understand. The “l” is just an easy way of putting a straight line behind the 4. Really doesn’t matter.

Have you done all that work with that 01 xj while having the infamous 0331 head on the 4.0 common for cracking in 00-01?? Very curious because my xj has that and doesn’t have issues yet. If you’ve done everything so far with it then I’m not going to rush into replacing mine!! Haha you’ve worked that thing hard!

Too bad you can`t do a split dual exhaust and a bigger throttle body on the new engine. That would wake it up and make it sound like a V8. But I also understand the reliability aspect of it. Sounded good on the dyno. I`ts amazing the stock trans had that much abuse and milage and was still going good. You must have serviced it regularly.

My question is, is there a reason for clearance that you didn’t use a rack and pinion set up? I know that the rack and pinion from a stock first gen Liberty will fit in a stock Cherokee with little modifications. But I don’t know a lot about lift kits. I know a lot of people hate Liberty’s but I have done some rescues of stuck people with big purpose built off-road rigs with my stock Liberty. Their little tanks if you give them a fair shake. The only time I have ever got it stuck was when I got high centred on some ice. Two of use gave her a push with our persons and out she came, and the time my front drive shaft broke. Then I needed a tow. I know she doesn’t have the clearance to just walk off into big mud holes and the like so I try do be smart about my lines. But she pretty capable. Plus something most people don’t know about first gen Liberty’s and similar age Dakota’s. Is those cross bumps in the roof are actually a roll cage. Not a race approved level. But enough that if you tip it on it’s lid the whole thing doesn’t completely cave in on your head. Sorry I got off topic there. I do that sometimes.

Always liked your channel. 👍👍 Hey man, I know you like all of the grease, hard work, etcetera as well, but bro, what could you do with your time/energy if you didn't have to spend it swapping out engines, axles, transfer cases, transmissions? Why not just get a CYBRTRK? It would be bomber for the channel, and may end up saving you a bunch of time, and also be way more convienent, comfortable, useful, safe. Might be worth a shot. 😉 Seriously, compare the specs on that vehicle to the current one. Even a video comparing the two vehicles for what you do would do well, and be interesting AF. Approach angle, departure angle, range, recharging, on-board AC power 110/220, on-board air compressor for airing up, solar powered tonneau cover for extra range (seem to have no shortage of sunlight out there), massive low-end torque, HP, frunk/bed for easy access of tools, winches, self-leveling air suspension, full-time all wheel drive, very hard to dent, no rust, way more cargo capacity, it goes on and on. Nobody knows what the CYBRTRK specs are yet in terms of HP & torque, but they'll blow that new engine you got out of the water, and do it quietly and much more precisely too.

With what information is out there, the cyber truck would be completely helpless in the sand. They’re estimating it somewhere between 8000 and 10,000 pounds. I would have to LS swap it, and put straight axles under both ends to make it work. Lol
